Loneliness, your silent whisper
Fills a river of tears through the night
Memory, you never let me cry
And you, you never said goodbye

Sometimes our tears blinded the love
We lost our dreams along the way
But I'd never thought you'd trade your soul to the fates
Never thought you'd leave me alone

Time through the rain has set me free
Sands of time will keep your memory
Love everlasting, fades away
Alive within your beatless heart

Pharm Chalet on Wed: Preparations

Tuesday is today, and tomorrow is the pharm chalet. yesterday was the physio paper. whew.

My schedule:

Monday: physio paper and post-exam celebrations
Tuesday: Rest and go to wang's house. buy stuff for chalet.
Wed: Chalet day #1 (important!)
Thu: Chalet day #2 (er... also important!)
Fri: Pack up and go home, reach home, prepare home for...
Sat: my birthday bash
Sun: slack
3 weeks from sun: dunno wad to do.

Today.. felt damn lazy.. woke up at 11am and tested my program for track mixing.. its called VirtualDJ which was introduced by choon han (actually his friend). Hopefully on thursday the pharm people will get into a party mood...

Virtual DJ is great.. it basically can:

1) sync two songs together without any "quiet space" when changing tracks using the "crossfade" and "automix" functions, a must for any dj:
2) do beatmatching and alter the tempo of songs
3) do virtual scratching (with the mouse, which sucks.. haha maybe can use touchpad)
4) skip beats (eg. normal beat is 1, 2, 3, 4, it can go 1, 2, 3, 3, 3, 3, 4, 3, 2, 1, 2, 3, etc)
5) alter pitch (modulation for those voices who cannot sing the song)
6) Loop (for those djs who wanna take a break.. haha)
7) set cues, for that extra touch of coordination, and recall them like a calculator.
8) create effects like flanger (more techno-like voices), backspin, frequency modulation, etc.

whew!

anyway, going to giant later to get 24 x beer, some soft drinks..

The Aftermath of Semester 1

Like the Allied troops who entered the city of Berlin from the west, all they had to do was to raise their country's flag over the Reichstag and say, "whew, it's over..."

Then the Soviet troops who entered the city from the east, all they did was say, "shit, now we have to fight the Cold War..."

And so they came up with the Iron Curtain, and a game called Command and Conquer: Red Alert (which is obsolete now).

Forgive me, i'm bullshitting again... haha there will be optimistic people who look forward to the perils of Sem 2, and non-optimistic people (like me) who wished time would freeze and that there would be no such thing again. Must regain sufficient energy for Sem 2... haiz

---

28th Nov, 1900 hours. about 350 students rushed out from MPSH 5, including 112 delighted pharmacists. Tot there would be a gathering of sorts but due to the stress caused by preparation of physio paper, no one was quite interested for pre-gathering talks.. haha

from wad i know.. the guys (my batch) went to bukit timah to have indian food and play LAN (which really sucks, they should have gone to ginza plaza. they dun even have cs!!! omg). Repeat: don't ever go bukit timah to play LAN, it SUCKS

the "hcjc gang of girls" comprising of jingwen, xuanwei etc went to sing k-box. tot that was the original plan.. haha

the "niron's gang" comprising of niron, junice, farveez, cheralyn and melody went to Marriott Hotel for Dessert Buffet. hope they were full... haha

who else? ah. constance and yee lian went out together (! nan dao they are...) to orchard to have a "hot date" haha. but constance wanted to be back by 9 to catch some show.. haha

those who got boyfriends one.. haha u know la... wrapped their invisible cloak around themselves and "poofed" away.

the rest.. i dunno. melted away in the shadows lurking outside mpsh5. Damn interesting, when we went in, it was still sunny, and when we came out, night had fallen. Think i lost sense of time there.

Physio paper was sucky. 40 MCQ questions were... first 20 was damn hard, and last 20 came out in the CA2. i couldn't write much for the 3 short-ans questions.

Hope i freaking dun fail the paper.

Anatomy Exam

I have been lucky.

Despite the seizure and all, i could still put a sizable reply to the questions they asked. I have been really fortunate to get most - 4 out of 5 - the questions that i had spotted - and hence, put extra concentration on.

Topics:
1) Muscle (screwed)
2) Urinary
3) Ovary (quite screwed)
4) Endocrine
5) Nervous II

I did the questions from the back... wonder will i get penalised for this... haha and the parts were all in disorder. e.g. a) to d) to c) to b). Haha. cool. Thank god man... four days of intense preparation was quite worth it. The key idea is NOT to force yourself too much.

And i did not touch immune system at all... thank god it didn't come out. whew.

Countdown: 48 hours more to the gates of freedom.

Epileptic attack.. again

This is the second time this year.. man, things are not going well.
During the exam period, i should have taken better care of this ailing body.

The attack came when i just woke up from a 7-9pm nap and dragged myself to see the 9pm show on channel 8, while having dinner. It was bak kut teh. maybe something wrong was with the dinner, or with the show, that halfway eating i just felt "a strange sensation somewhere" and called for help.

Family called for paramedics and i spent 3h at NUH A&E department. The usual symptomps of a post-seizure: severe muscle ache (due to intense jerking) - i can't even use my right hand to its full effect - general weakness overall, impaired concentration, slight headache that doesnt go away yet is very nagging.

As i blog in the relative calm of my house, i realise that tomorrow is the Anatomy exam.

And i am screwed.

one more good day to the anat exam. sigh.
can someone give me more fuel to last for this exam, nothing seems to work out.

Birthday Bash prep

whew, just finished smsing 29 ppl about my birthday bash.

yes, the one... i have been planning for for a long time...

Date: 3 December 2005
Venue: My place (Jurong East)
Time: seating from 1900 onwards.

For those kind souls who may sneak in here in between breaks for a short respite, please inform the rest. You know who you are, haha... i thank you so much, i dun wanna sms until i exceed my quota for the month. and my fingers bleed.

Woohoo this feeling is SO COOL!!! my handphone jammed. haha~ all reply to me at the same time... wtf... the distinctive nokia 3230 "toot" sound keep on ringing like christmas carolling. haha. funky. some primary school friends i smsed replied:

"Who is this?"

omg. haha. can't blame them.

Some were straight to the point:

"can"

haha. interesting.

Funny thing is, the food is not catered yet, the entertainment is not there, and the house is a mess. and i plan to invite everyone whos interested, which means it's a pretty daunting task. And the house is a mess. And the house cannot sit so many people (guest list is 50 and increasing).

HOW TO SIT 50 PAX in a small HDB 5-room? I'm killing myself.

OMG, TOMORROW'S THE MICROBES TEST AND WHAT THE HELL AM I STILL DOING HERE

ARRRGGHHH

Gonna make you sweat

(Hmm, when i typed the 4 words up there just now, i typed "gonna make you swear". A new parody?)

This is Friday Night in a Club!!

C&C - Gonna Make You Sweat

Retro voice:
Everybody dance now (x2)
Give me the music (x2),
everybody dance now (x2)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, everybody dance now (x2)

DJ:
Here is the dome back with the bass
The jam is live in effect and I don't waste time
Off the mike with a dope rhyme
Jump to the rhythm, Jump, jump to the rhythm jump

And I'm here to combine beats and lyrics
To make you shake your pants take a chance
Come on and dance, guys, grab a girl don't wait make the twirl
It's your world and I'm just a squirrel
Trying to get a nut to move your butt to the dance floor
So you what's up hands in the air come on say yeah
Everybody over here everybody over there
The crowd is live enough as I pursue this groove
Party people in the house, move

Retro voice:
Left to right (groove!) work me all night
Come on let's sweat, baby
Let the music take control, let the rhythm move you
Sweat, sweat
Let the music take your soul, let the rhythm move you
Everybody dance now

(Repeat)
Da da da da da da da da da da da da
Da da da da da da da da
Da da da da da da da da da da da da (x2)
(Ooh)

(Move) everybody dance now
Everybody dance now

DJ:
Pause, take a breath and go for yours on my command
Now hit the dance floor, it's gonna make you sweat till you bleed, is that dope enough indeed
I paid the price to control the dice

I'm more precise to the point I'm nice
Let the music take control of your heart and soul
Unfold your body is free and behold
Dance till you can't dance till you can't dance no more
Get on the floor and get ablow
Then come back and upside down
Easy now, let me see you move

Retro voice:
Left to right (groove) work me all night

The music is my life
Everybody dance now (x3)
Everybody

Come on let's sweat, baby
Let the music take control, let the rhythm move you
Sweat, sweat
Let the music take your soul, let the rhythm move you

Da da da da da da da da da da (x2)

One of the most famous retro dance pieces ever. When the first four words of this song "every body dance now" are uttered, the person is transformed into a grooving machine, back in the smashing '90s, where John Travolta was right beside you in Saturday Night Fever and not buying beers for people on stupid commercials.

Man, i love retro - it isn't so mechanical, like techno, and not like rap, where the lyrics talk about gangsters, screwing women, real life, ghettos etc. This is about having fun! (Ok, when you're having fun u listen to techno, and when you're screwing people u listen to rap).

The only thing modern that comes close to retro is acid jazz and chillout... nothing more than drinking a cool one... miss those Proms and Bashes. esp. Sheares Exposure camp bash. Amazing.

Everybody dance now!

OK guys this is the ultimate song to sing with your dates / gfs / female classmates / etc (but not your wife in Singaporean standards).

Everyone knows Jacky (Cheung) for his numerous canto-pop hits, as well as his (previous) legendary status of the 4 Heavenly Kings. Not much about Regine V though except that she's a singer from Phillipines with many Tagalog songs to her belt.

Why i like it so much: This song has four different keys that differs from each other by 3 semitones, mainly, Eb, Gb, A, and C (original key). It keeps changing keys, which makes it hard to play, and impossible if you don't know any of the 6-sharp, 6-flat keys (like Gb). From the listener's point of view, this is the one song, if you can get it, to advance from Stage 7 (damn good relationship) to Stage 8 (Will You Marry Me?). Haha. dream on, kid.

Verdict on playing / singing: This one is Hard. But rewarding if you can play it, the modulations to different keys are enchanting enough. Be sure u got a good voice when singing it though, i almost broke my larynx when doing so.

Anyone fancing a try on the chords, they're there. Just get the mp3 and try to work things out. Wish i could play this tune to someone too.. haha. Wonder who?

Enjoy folks.

21 years and 1 day older

Not that i feel any wiser, anyway. I feel like slacking. Even if it's in the midst of an exam period and everyone is piaing their exams, like mad. And I'm still blogging, at 3am. Even Ed. doesn't blog nowadays. (OK he did, with an interesting twist to the current Pharmacy cohort. Check him out. )

Feel kinda lonely, with dad out of the country. Younger sis is always out of doors and this leaves me with Mum and myself. Mostly she stays in the master, but she pops out to the living room occasionally. And stuffs me with stuff like fruits, plain water, barley water, water, fruits. Damn.

To her, i'm still her boy boy, who about 15-18 years back was still concentrating hard on his playing when minute offerings of food were being fed directly into my mouth whenever i got a break from my Lego or computer games. Even now, i still get a piece of honeydew or apple put into my mouth (via a fork) when i'm totally into my Warhammer:40000, when the enemy's not attacking. Such were the days - it really made me feel that the years really haven't been passing. Man, if she'd see the sliver of light emaciating from the slit of her bedroom door, she would probably check it out and screw me for blogging at 3 am.

My dog is now looking at me with semi-open awake eyes, giving me the "what the f**k are u doing, switching on the light at 3am in the morning, u moron. i need my beauty sleep..." hell, he sleeps all day anyway, and just with a snap of the finger, unlike me who can only sleep at certain times, and sometimes not at all. ahahhaha.

Wasted Saturday and Sunday again... as i said, this is exam period, period. Nothing is of more paramount an issue than EXAM. (That's what many pharmacists would probably think now.) Yet on Saturday i went to play Lan with Jevin (cos Wang was piaing his GTA: San Andreas and mugging), chatted for 4h among pharmacists whom mostly were on Away or Busy mode, and on Sunday i slept like a pig until 2pm and 'twas Warhammer until mid-afternoon. And then it was the Chamber of Secrets Part I at night, before i turned in at 10pm. Big mistake, cos i woke up at 2am. shit.

Feel like typing out Nervous System II later. Now just wasting time.

21st Birthday

Today. 21st birthday.

Prof Ho gave the best birthday present of all - a super-easy Physical Pharm exam. It was so easy, most of the questions were from tutorials or lecture notes. All pharm classmates, i dun think i'm very smart and i think most of u agree with me? I think the only motive he had was to prevent mass failures, in order to keep his job. Nasty of me saying this but you should have been taught by him.

The test was so easy that someone actually left the exam hall after 1h 10min, according to Victor. Was so easy that i could even finish all 3 questions in Section B (supposed to do only 2), check everything, and submit the answers swee swee.

Anyway, he gave the present to everyone, so... wasn't that much of a difference. Everyone came out of the exam hall feeling damn relieved. Wasted alot of brain cells studying and cramming now-useless information.

Target in sight, but did not make contact, some more perfect opportunity after the exam. Wah lau~~~ what a
disappointment i am. 21, still a chicken.. haiz

Anyway after the exam, went with Jevin to Ginza plaza to play LAN... wonder why we left MPSH 6 so fast, i thought some people would wanna let down their hair after this break, but NO, everyone left to mug for their exams. omg. and i thought i was a chao mugger. oh well, maybe they've got exams on monday.

which reminds me of the GEK exam. what to study for microbes?? no past-year paper, vague descriptions of the exam format, etc. I thought i would do ok in this topic among the mostly arts students. Maybe not. No microbes name to memorise, no formulae, nothing at all. Shit. We'll see on wednesday.

Shack. without the usual company of Wang and co, it really didn't feel like a birthday. But, which year is such anyway? Birthdays come and go, this one isn't much different. No big deal.

Guess for me, if someone is there, every day would be a birthday though...

Dinner at Waterfront

Riverview Hotel offers one of the most "worth-it" buffets, for about $40/pax ($35+++) you can treat yourself to a variety of Japanese delights, including prawn, chicken, raw fish, etc. So we (my family and I) discovered when we went to town for a celebration of life aka my 21st birthday.

No revision for Physical Pharmacy test although it was tomorrow.

Speaking of buffets... i know of a person who appreciates a good buffet... Meichin are u hearing this, haha...

How it goes: they serve each person attending the buffet a full spread of what to order. And after that (in fact during the course) you can ask for additional helpings of whatever item on the menu, e.g. if u like the ebi (prawns) you can ask for additional helpings, until u get sick of it...

But the thing about japanese food is that it is damn high in calorie and cholesterol... I've had 3 oyster omelettes (one oyster in the middle of the yolk of a fried egg, DAMN delicious), two plates of shrimps... etc etc etc all in all damn damn damn salty, even the miso soup is salty, the only thing that is not salty is the Chawan mushi. But damn good.

After about 1 hr of feasting, we left the restaurant... for dessert which was served in the lounge. Now i dunno why they wanna serve dessert in a lounge instead of at the dinner table, but when we went to the lounge there was freeflow of coffee and tea plus one nice mango cake! Not too bad for a chillout place.

Next time no Sakae sushi? u can try this.

PPDA exam

Rule #1: never drink the milk tea from Science canteen before any test. It is spiked with adrenaline.

9 am saw myself and 111 other candidates into the air-conditioned air-raid shelter of Temasek Hall aka multi-purpose hall. Man, i'd rather have it in Sheares anytime. Their MPH is like, one storey high!!! how to play badminton in it? omg. 3 points for the design and 10 points for the air-con, blizzard man.

anyway, everyone was doing last-minute revision, or hugging one another or hugging Buddha's feet, so there wasn't really much room for interaction. Myself included.

First 3 questions were ok, but the palpitations came again... i was practically "high" enough, that i had to struggle to keep my writing legible and my HR low. around question 4 i was around the 25-30 min mark, "well, should've enough time," i thought to myself and slacked awhile. Not a good move. Why? The format of the exam changed: there were 8 compulsory questions in Section A and 2 choose 1 questions in Section B, instead of the 6:2 format in all the past-year exams, it was really hard to gauge anything. Just do it, anyway.

So by the time Section A was finished, i had about 30-40 min left, not a good timing. And with question 8 almost blank and some other parts left unsatisfactorily covered. The panic button came on again.

By the time Dr Chui announced the time-off, the adrenaline was probably saturated. Whew.
As what Jevin suggested, taking a PPDA exam is probably more exhaustive than having sex. Wow. And I wasn't even done.

Halfway through.......... the preparations..... i hope

Saturday.. 6 days to the PPDA exam and 1 week to the phy pharm exam...

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

just tried the phy pharm exam 2004 after "going thru" the phy pharm notes.
What was supposed to be a mass-using of formulae turned out to a hell lot of explanations!!! why mostly i can't do cos all i did was to understand what the formulae turned out to be.. and didn't memo anything else... like how carbon dioxide is a supercritical fluid..

and ppda is half there.. alot of things still not yet memorised. like amino acids and the biological reactions. although the ppda paper is relatively easier (it is still doable, at least i know which chapter to dig for info, unlike the phy pharm, where to dig for answers? only 7.5 min per qn lei). many chapters are shaky. the first few chapters on nomenclature, thermodynamics, solubility, bonding, are still very shaky.. can give a over-the-surface explanation, but not a throughout treatment.

ah.. wad to do.. wad to do... around half a month for ppda and phy pharm.. and no progress. wad about anat and physio? and gek?? less time to study for them lor.

today... wasted alot of time playing warhammer 40000, sleeping, watching tv, blogging...

wah lau.. best thing is, jingwen still going for k-box lei!!! arrrgghh i also want... damn damn sien. patience is wearing out... sigh.

only 5 days effective left... sigh.

The Battle with the Zee Monster

Today was a good battle with the z-monster... incredibly i managed to stay awake for the whole of Dr Dheen's lecture.. loved the part about the Circle of Willis... killa man

Six different blood vessels make up the Circle... wah, high...

Oh yeah, finally knew what caused insomnia

What causes it?
Typically, there is no single cause for insomnia but a number of factors are known to contribute.
Lifestyle - eating late at night, jet lag, hunger, alcohol, caffeine, stimulant drugs, including nicotine.
Environment – noise (eg partner snoring), uncomfortable bed or bedroom.
Physical health problems – sleep apnoea (abnormal breathing while asleep), asthma, tinnitus, pain, prostate problems that mean frequent trips to the toilet at night, and indigestion.
Psychological – including stress or grief.
Mental health problem such as depression or anxiety.
Medication – eg certain tablets for asthma and treatments for nasal congestion, vertigo and depression.

Sleep
The exact function of sleep is not fully understood, but the effects of lack of sleep suggest that its main function is to rest and repair the body. There are also psychological benefits. One phase of sleep is called rapid eye movement (REM) because the sleeper's eyes can be seen to move rapidly behind the lids. This is thought to be the time when dreams occur. People who don't sleep for long enough or who sleep very lightly, become deprived of REM sleep. They can become irritable and anxious and, in extreme sleep deprivation may even have hallucinations.

Also something called the pineal gland produces melatonin, which is said to restore sleep cycles and combat jet lag.. produced by the pineal gland. Maybe mine is cranking up for the day...

The Attack of the Insomnia Bug

Well, said the title and time of this blog. No one blogs at 0800... maybe Edwin. (haha but that's another story...)

can't imagine. I've been awake for six hours. yes.. slept only two hours from 1200 mn to 0200 and then woke up from my slumber in hall. was it the bed or the #$%^ insects?? both. anyway felt damn damn itchy.. finally got a taste of wad army life must have been like to the poor NSFs that went thru BMT.. shitty. thanks god i stayed out.

anyway can't resume sleep for the rest of the nite.. went to pee three times at roughly 3am, 4am and 5am. the direutic effect is incredible. then got so pissed off by some alarm clock at 6am, i drew the curtain and went to do some work. when i drew the curtain again, daylight had already acheived itself.

3 things i could attribute to this behaviour:

1) sleep cycle totally disrupted. woke up at two p.m. on monday - waking up times leaning towards the afternoon. seems like the one-week break isn't doing any good. this is retribution.

2) forgot to take my medication yesterday, took it at 12 mn. ok it made me kinda sleepy.. so i slept for 2h. then woke up. no wonder i was so hyper during the entire night, smiling and cracking jokes.
i find that whenever i miss medication, i become very hyper... but with very serious side-effects like this shitty insomnia. took medication again at around 0430. the tranquiliser effect didn't work man.... shit

3) stress....? maybe. but this is a bit extreme. i always get insomnia during pre-exam preparations. comes with the brain. oh well.

now.. just waiting to fall asleep.. but hopefully after anatomy lecture and after the gek rehearsal on the presentation.. i think i will buang the presentation... omg... 4 hours to go..

0839 now.. wad to do with 1 hr?? can't sleep... so blog lor. can't blog well. can't type well either.

went down for breakfast just now. tabaoed. on the way back saw someone who looked like a girl standing outside the main door to the Sheares lobby. if i were awake, i would have opened the door for her.. even though i was carrying breakfast with both hands.. but some unknown mechanism prompted me to walk on and dao her.. OH SHIT man... in the end she had to call someone else to open the door for her.. so guilty and so pai sei..
worse thing is i dunno who she is!!!

oh man. thing i have Level Up-ed. i'm now able to sleep with my eyes wide open.. and my senses at full blast... achieving a dream-like state in which i'm in semi-control of my actions.. something the average person would probably equate to after drinking a whole lot of alcohol.

think i shall recuperate at home after this.. wed still got presentation...

insomnia sucks... sucks sucks sucks sucks.....

Am i trying to love, or am i trying to love an illusion of what i tried to love before?

Suddenly the world seems so empty again and i'm standing in that familiar, voiceless void.

Outing to Marche's

Yesterday was the 29th of October. D-Day!!! YAY so the whole lot of pharmacists (ok, about 25-30% of them) trooped over to town after the Phy Pharm test and Dr chui's tutorial to town for a well-deserved dinner-cum-gathering.

However, as there was no leader, and we were split into two groups for tutorial, one group (which i was in it) left at about 5:40 pm after deliberating for 40min outside LT20, and the second group left LT 20 at about 6:20pm after being held by chui.

as such, the decision was quite impromptu: we arrived at orchard at about 7pm. "where to eat" was a good question. since we could not find any suitable place in orchard that could hold 30 people, niron suggested pizza hut. but it was in dhoby ghaut, which was... diaoz. alight in orchard say wanna eat at dhoby ghaut.

ok, nvm. walk there. then never update the others also until about the time we reached somerset... ok then saw nydc's outdoor restaurant at heeren damn empty, begging for customers. niron suggested we eat there, but then one of the gals saw marche and then, why not settle for marche instead.

more phone calls to the other group and mui fong, guess mui fong's group was abit turned off.. so sorry...

nevertheless. marche it was. at first we sat at some bench with a good view of the "toilet" sign but when the second group came they were ushered into this huge room with lotsa wine bottles, "The Wine Cellar" or something. so we thought, why not combine? so in the end we had 30+ pharmacists in the wine cellar.

dinner was swift. the rosti was excellent, i wished i had one more. never tried the crepe (or whatever grace was saying) but managed to scavange some of it from the one of the girls who gladly abandoned her share. round 2. salad of salmon. excellent as well. (hey i'm saying it was excellent cos all of it is damn expensive, just trying to make every dollar count).

after dinner, the guys wanted to have some bridge gaming in the true style of mediterranean dining. the girls talked amongst themselves... small conversations were being made everywhere.. until the cameras started flashing...

one camera flashed after another... firstly it was innocenous group pictures then later everyone came in with their camera phones and digicams. then the poses changed from straight smiling faces to cheeky people with ridiculous poses (look out for the pics in the next entry).

main thing about this outing was, i managed to snap hell lotsa pics with my camera! until i uploaded them and found out due to the lighting and resolution, most of them turned out like shit. damn.

after dinner... about 2130. someone suggested to chill out at esplanade. so, walk and talk?? ok along the way the guys talked about drinking, joked about it and eventually it became a reality - we went down to a 7-11 at centrepoint to purchase the booze.

walked on further to plaza singapura. guess the gals were getting tired, well i could walk further.. haha so we suggested having it at istana park, or even underground at dhoby ghaut mrt station. no chance, somehow or rather, the group went to city hall instead. esplanade it was.

by the time we reached esplanade, it was already 2330 hours.. we sat down at the amphitheatre on the boulevard outside and played games... talked about ghost stories.. etc etc.

left esplanade with victor on a 174M at about 0100 hours... totally shag and abit drunk. haha
